Why Choose A Fountain

Research has shown that the presence of water relieves stress, calms the nerves and creates a haven of peace and tranquility. A fountain, water garden, pond or stream can also add character to an otherwise average garden.
Running water, in particular, is thought to aid relaxation and destressing, due to the "white noise" emitted. The easiest way to add running water to your garden is by installing a  fountain. A garden fountain will also add beauty and serenity to the landscaping and provide a talking point with visitors.
Even if you do not have an appropriate garden, you could have an indoor fountain or table top fountain. This can be a very stylish addition to the interior design of your home.
However, you need to make an informed choice about the type of fountain you select. Fountains range from low-ended moulded plastic to expensive carved stone. The choice needs to fit both your landscaping and your budget.
Here are some points to consider when making your choice :
  • Many cheap plastic fountains will not last  -  they tend to crack quickly.
  • Moulded plastic is difficult to clean and stop from looking grimy
  • Carved stone fountains are stunning and last well, but they are expensive and may be too much for most peoples budget
  • Their weight makes them difficult to move,so if you experience extremes of temperature and plan to store the fountain over winter to prevent cracking, this may prove difficult
  • Occupying the middle of the price range are fountains made of poly resin or a mixture of stone and resin. these are affordable and weather resistant. A fountain made of these materials will look and feel like stone but will be cheaper and lighter and so easier to move. It will however be heavier than a plastic fountain but will be more durable.
  • Mid-range to high end fountains usually have a better appearance.
  • They also tend toproduce a better stream of water due to their higher water capacity and better pumping ability. Look for a fountain that pumps at 5 gallons per minute.

Whichever you choose, a fountain should bring you many years of enjoyment.
